Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 22 Apprenticeship
Training Program is dedicated to excellence in Unionized Sheet Metal
Training. In order to provide a qualified union workforce for all
signatory contractors and meet the changing needs of the Sheet Metal
Industry, Local 22 strives to provide the best training to all motivated
individuals who have chosen to pursue a career in the unionized Sheet
Metal Industry.
Apprentices take part in a five year program that requires 825 hours of
intensive classroom and shop instruction, and 10,000 hours of
on-the-job-training with contractors that are signatory with Local 22.
Classroom and shop instruction is conducted by highly qualified Local 22
member instructors that carry various levels of trade related
certifications.
All classroom and shop training takes place at Local 22 Training Center,
which is recognized by the International Training Institute as having
achieved a Gold Level Accreditation. Classroom training will include
sheet metal mathematics and layout, sheet metal fabrication, reading
blueprints, plans and specifications, computer drafting, health and
safety, and welding. The training centers weld shop is an American
Welding Society Accredited Test Facility.
General Apprenticeship Information
AGE: Applicants must be 18 years of age
EDUCATION: High School Graduate, or possesses a
certificate of equivalency, GED
SUBSTANTIATING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED WHEN MAKING APPLICATION:
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Copy of High School Diploma or GED
- Transcript of High School Courses
- Copy of Honorable military Discharge Where Applicable
- Valid Drivers License
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Those individuals that
are accepted as starting apprentices will be required to present a
medical statement as proof of their physical well being, as well as pass
a drug test prior to job placement.
